The Pilates Method

"Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness." - Joseph Pilates

Pilates is a system of exercise that was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1930s and 40s to tone and strengthen the entire body. The exercises can be performed on a mat or on one of the many pieces of equipment developed by Joe Pilates. Many of the pilates apparatus involve spring resistance training. Pilates can help improve posture, flexibility, balance, coordination and help relieve back pain. Pilates is appropriate for all body types and ages, and can be modified to accommodate many types of injuries (with a physician's prior approval).

Instructor

Gabrielle Ciuffreda

After spending several years as an attorney in mid-town Manhattan, Gabby decided to make a positive change and devote herself to something she truly loved: Pilates. Gabby discovered Pilates in 2005 when she was looking for a way to strengthen her body, improve her posture and de-stress. In 2010, she decided to pursue her teacher training at True Pilates New York under several world-renowned instructors including Cynthia Shipley, Jerome Weinberg and Sari Mejia Santos.

Gabby worked as an instructor at True Pilates NY from 2010 until 2015 when she moved to Vermont. Gabby believes that a pilates session should flow and be a workout; she focuses on proper alignment and on moving from the center of the body.

Classes

Mat classes are appropriate for all student levels and ages. The classes will focus on the foundation principles and exercises of the Pilates method: improving flexibility, building strength, and developing control by focusing on utilizing core body muscles. The intimate size of these classes allows each client to receive hands on adjustments and individualized feedback from the instructor.

Private sessions offer customized workouts and individualized attention, which help master skills and reach goals more efficiently. Privates sessions can help with recovery from an injury and or focus on attaining a specialized goal. These sessions utilize a variety of pilates apparatus, including the reformer, wunda chair and spine corrector.
